Memories

I remember sitting on my mothers lap after whining about not wanting to go to bed.  She rocked back and forth gently singing "Hush Little Baby" in her sweet soprano voice.  I didn't even like the song much, but the rocking calmed me.  Eventually I would doze off in the middle of my mother's heavenly chorus.  It is not a  beautiful chair, but the smooth rocking of it's wooden frame engulfs me even now in a shower of memories.

Today, there is not much that is keeping it together but old straw winding, and a solid, winding base.  Many times my mother wanted to sell the chair, but I wouldn't let her.  Someday I hope to own that rocking chair so my children can experience the same magic. ~Brad Strode, Age 10
